New meets old.

On this complete renovation of a 1970’s condo, we worked closely with the homeowners. We added several systems that would bring this home into the modern area. Automated shades, lighting, theatre sound and a control system make this make this a luxury condo worthy of the gods.

Starting with the basics

During the renovation we retrofit a data line in the ceiling for an access point and speaker wires for a full 5.1 system including 2 in-ceiling speaker locations. Conduit was run to televisions in the living room, master bedroom and guest room, and a Snap-Av Versabox was installed at each. Fortunately, there was a hallway storage closet with enough space for us to install a small rack to house all the electronics. Automation by Total Control ties the whole package together with custom user interfaces for each room.

A living room to really live in

In the living room we installed a 65” Sony XBR65X900F television in an Edge Media Frame housing an Hz55 Horizon Soundbar. This was paired with an A-820 powered subwoofer, all manufactured by Leon Speakers. The Edge Media Frame’s wood colour was custom coloured to match the rest of the home’s natural wood tones.

D65 in-ceiling speakers by Origin Acoustics were installed as surrounds. Powering it all is an Integra DRX-2.1 home theatre receiver.

Lighting and shades from Lutron complete the room. They allow the client to adjust the light levels and increase privacy or enjoy the amazing Edmonton river valley view.

A large 7” table-top touchscreen controller allows access to room scenes/activities, as well as controls for the shades and lighting.

Netflix and chill

For when you want to “Netflix and chill” in the master bedroom, we installed a Sony xbr55x900f into the closet’s entertainment unit. For added privacy, Lutron automated shades drop down with the push of a button.

The combination guest bedroom/office was designed to be a flexible space, so we installed the customer’s older plasma television on an articulating mount. This allows for a perfect view angle from either the built-in murphy bed or desk. We also installed Lutron automated shades in this room.

Summary

This luxury condo is definitely going to turn heads. Our favourite part is the Leon Edge Media Frame. The frame matches the rest of the room’s aesthetic perfectly, and allows the TV to not just be another black rectangle on a wall. Overall, this job is picture perfect.
